Welcome to Episode 1: Charles McNeal Quartet
The very first Studio 91 session set the bar high: a heartfelt tribute to saxophone legend John Coltrane. Live from the Vinyl Vault, four of the Bay Area’s finest musicians came together to honor Coltrane’s enduring legacy, delivering a performance filled with fire, depth, and soul.
Charles McNeal (saxophone) carried Coltrane’s voice forward with passion and precision, channeling the searching spirit that made Trane an icon.

Charles McNeal Joe Warner (piano) wove harmonic textures that paid homage to McCoy Tyner while adding his own distinct brilliance.

Deszon Claiborne (drums) drove the energy with propulsive rhythms, a dynamic force echoing Elvin Jones’ powerful swing.

Ravi Abcarion (bass) grounded the quartet with deep, resonant lines that brought balance and groove to every phrase.

Together, they created a session that was both a tribute and a conversation — Coltrane’s sound refracted through new generations, resonating with the same urgency and beauty that first changed the course of jazz.
🎷 Studio 91 – Episode 1 proves that Coltrane’s spirit lives on in every note. This is where the journey begins.
