Funky Friday Episode 90: Oaktown Funk brings our American funk city tour home to Oakland. From Sly & The Family Stone and Tower of Power to the Pointer Sisters, Digital Underground, MC Hammer, and contemporary funksters The Grease Traps, we celebrate the city's unmistakable groove and the musicians who helped shape it. Ten episodes. Nine cities. One homecoming.

This week, Oakland lost a Titan. Funky Friday Episode 42 is dedicated to Coach John Beam — a mentor, a leader, and a cornerstone of Bay Area communities. Through soul, funk, and Bay Area rhythm, this tribute moves from grief to uplift, honoring a man who spent his life lifting others. Beam of a Titan is a memorial in sound for a coach who taught generations to rise.
